Why I’m Running for Lieutenant Governor of Maryland

My name is Rob Krop, and I’m running for Lieutenant Governor of Maryland alongside Dan Cox.
I’m a lifelong Marylander, a small business owner, a real estate broker, a firearms dealer and range owner, a husband, and a father.
And more importantly, I’ve lived the consequences of bad policy.
My family and my business were put through years of government overreach and lawfare. I saw firsthand what happens when agencies operate without accountability or due process. That experience didn’t just shape my views. It forced me to take a hard look at what’s happening in our state and what needs to change.
Restoring Second Amendment Rights in Maryland
One of my top priorities is restoring constitutional rights and bringing common sense back to Maryland’s gun laws.
Right now, the system treats law-abiding citizens like they’re the problem.
That needs to change.
We will work to eliminate the Maryland handgun roster and repeal the Handgun Qualification License. We will also push to end the magazine capacity ban and the so-called assault weapons ban, which continue to burden responsible citizens while doing nothing to stop crime.
But this issue goes beyond policy. It’s also about protecting people.
I’ve experienced what it’s like when the government targets federally licensed firearms dealers without clear standards or due process. No Maryland business owner should have to operate under that kind of pressure.
That’s why we will fight for clear accountability. That includes requiring proper due process before enforcement actions, setting clear intent standards so licenses aren’t revoked over simple paperwork mistakes, and ensuring business owners have the opportunity to correct non-criminal issues before their livelihood is put at risk.
Fixing Housing Affordability and Property Taxes
My second major focus is housing affordability and property taxes.
As a real estate broker for more than 20 years, I’ve watched families struggle not because of their mortgage, but because of rising tax assessments.
In Maryland, you can do everything right, buy a home within your means, and still get pushed out because your property taxes keep climbing.
That’s not sustainable.
Under a Cox administration, we will fight to ensure that property taxes cannot be assessed higher than the price you paid for your home. People should not be taxed on unrealized gains. A home is not a stock portfolio. It’s where families live, grow, and build their future.
This matters for young families trying to put down roots. It matters for seniors who want to retire with dignity. And it matters for the next generation who deserve a chance to afford life here.
Making Maryland Affordable
Maryland is losing people, and it’s not hard to see why.
High taxes. Rising energy costs. Constant fees. And a government that continues to spend without accountability.
Under Wes Moore, many families feel like they are paying more and getting less in return, while counties are being burdened with unfunded mandates.
That direction isn’t working.
We need to refocus on affordability and accountability.
That means cutting unnecessary taxes and fees, restoring fiscal discipline, prioritizing infrastructure that actually gets completed, and pursuing reliable, low-cost energy solutions that don’t strain families or destabilize the grid.
A Better Path Forward for Maryland
At its core, this campaign is about restoring the American Dream in Maryland.
It’s about making sure hard work is rewarded, not punished. It’s about creating a state where families can afford to stay, build wealth, and plan for the future with confidence.
If you believe Maryland can do better, you’re not alone.
If you believe government should respect the Constitution instead of working around it, you’re not alone.
And if you believe families should be able to live, work, and retire here without being pushed out, then I’m asking for your support.
Thank you, and God bless Maryland.
