Common Shooting Range Questions & Answers

MachineGun_A's&Q;s.jpg

By now you must have heard all about what fun the indoor shooting range can be.

But perhaps you still have some lingering questions about what the gun range entails, what requirements there are, and who can shoot.

Well, that’s the purpose of this blog — to answer all of the most common questions we have heard about our Frederick indoor gun range. For a more general overview, you can view our FAQ page. Or you can continue reading to learn everything you need to know about booking your time and having a blast on the range.

If you still have more questions, feel free to contact The Machine Gun Nest staff. We’re always on stand-by!

Do I Need A License?

The short answer is, not necessarily. While you do need to have a license to purchase and own a handgun in the state of Maryland, you don’t need a license to operate a firearm. If you are new to the sport of shooting, you can simply come down to The Machine Gun Nest, fill out our safety waiver, and learn how to rent a gun to use here at the range.

If you want to become licensed to own a handgun, you can learn more about our firearms training classes

How Does A Gun Range Work?

Sure, this is a good question. Our gun range features 12 lanes which can accommodate one or two people at a time. Each lane is 25 yards long and features targets at the end. You can choose to bring your own weapon or rent one from TMGN.

Gun rentals are one of the more unique and popular features at The Machine Gun Range, as we offer a number of pistols, rifles, and even machine guns to rent. Rentals are available to those ages 18 or older for semi-automatic rifles and shotguns, and 21 or older for pistols or fully automatic firearms.

A valid I.D. is required in order to shoot at our indoor gun range, and you must fill out an electronic safety waiver and complete a short safety briefing. After that, you are able to rent a lane on an hourly basis.

Wait, Did You Say Machine Guns?

We sure did. Here at The Machine Gun Nest, we have a unique selection of fully automatic machine guns that are available to rent to those over the age of 21. A range safety officer must be present to supervise during all machine gun rentals.

The machine guns we have in our weaponry include: AK-47, 1919, Krinkov, RPD, M4, MP5/MP5K, UZI, Thompson, Sten, Scar 16 and Scar 17, P90, G36, Kriss Vector, and Remington ACR.

Where Do I Get Ammo?

If you’re bringing your own weapon to shoot on the range, you are permitted to bring and use the ammo of your choosing. However, if you are renting a gun from The Machine Gun Nest, then you must purchase the ammo we have on hand. All of our rentals must use our ammo, no exceptions.

Can You Teach Me To Shoot?

Oh, absolutely. The Machine Gun Nest is fully staffed with knowledgeable professionals who are available to help you at all times. But more beneficial for beginners are the firearms training classes we offer on a weekly basis.

Are Kids Allowed At The Gun Range?

The Machine Gun Nest is completely family friendly! We are aiming to make the sport of shooting a more relatable, less-stigmatized activity. With safety as our number one priority, and the customer experience following closely behind, we are happy to accommodate children. We think it’s important that kids learn proper gun safety at a young age, which is why we require kids to be at least 10 years of age and they must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.

What If I Never Want To Leave?

This is a common occurrence here at The Machine Gun Nest. It’s just so much fun! We do have memberships available to those gun enthusiasts who simply can’t get enough range time, with exclusive benefits, deals, and discounts.

Still have questions? Ready to come fire away? Come on down to The Machine Gun Nest and we’ll get you all set up!
